CoHo Appz World Backup Companion
Backup and restore tool for Minecraft worlds.
Not an official Minecraft product. Not approved by or associated with Mojang or Microsoft.
The companion window and the package's PRODUCT-NOTICE.md identify the publisher and provide its support email/contact page. Contact that publisher for support with this tool.
Visit the website on your Windows x64 PC and select Download Windows companion. Extract the entire ZIP, then run Install-Companion.cmd from the extracted folder. The companion opens after installation; you can also open it later from the Start menu. The companion uses your own Windows account and manages folders on your PC.
The website's How to install and connect section shows the website address to enter in the companion. If the download is not available yet, contact the publisher shown on the page. Install the companion on each PC whose worlds you want to manage.
- Enter the HTTPS address supplied by your CoHo Appz World Backup website administrator.
- Choose a specific Minecraft world folder (or a worlds folder) and a separate backup folder. Avoid choosing a whole profile, AppData directory, or drive.
- Optionally use Import Minecraft settings to load
MinecraftLocation,MinecraftBackupLocation,MinecraftDataFiles, and the retention days from your original MCS.configfile. Other game settings are ignored. You may also choose an existingmcsDesc.txtdirectly. - Click Generate pairing code, copy it, and enter it on the website within 10 minutes.
- Approve the browser connection on your PC. Only approve a pairing you initiated.
- Close Minecraft, then use the website to create a backup or restore a previous one.
The Minecraft Bedrock world location varies by installation. Select your actual world folder from the original MCS configuration, rather than copying another person's path. A specific Bedrock world commonly contains level.dat and a db folder. Java worlds also use level.dat but a different internal structure. The companion backs up the folder as configured; it does not translate world formats.
Archives and game files stay on your PC. The site sees folder and backup metadata and progress. Existing mcraftBackup_*.zip archives in the configured folder are listed; unrelated ZIP files are ignored. The website shows the newest 2,500 backups; older archives remain on the PC. Backups exclude folders named backup, matching original MCS behavior. Keep your backup destination outside your world folder.
The companion asks for local confirmation before restore, deletion, manual cleanup, or a retention change. Folder selection opens a normal Windows dialog on your PC. Choose on this PC in the website means you must switch to the companion to complete the dialog.
Restore extracts and verifies the backup before replacing the world folder. The previous world remains in a sibling folder named <world>.mcs-previous-<timestamp>-<id>. The companion never removes those recovery folders automatically. You can move them elsewhere or delete them manually after verifying your restored world.
Keep the companion running. Minimize it to the notification area; double-click its icon to reopen it. To stop it, use the icon's Exit menu after all file operations finish. If the website restarts or pairing expires, disconnect and generate a new code. A failed internet connection does not cancel a file job already running locally.
Restore temporarily requires enough disk space for the extracted world in addition to your existing world. If extraction fails, the existing world is kept. Do not shut down Windows or remove a drive during a backup or restore.
Saved settings are at %LOCALAPPDATA%\MCS-Minecraft\settings.json. New description metadata is stored in the backup folder at .mcs\backup-metadata.json. Original description files are read for compatibility and are not rewritten.
